Obituary of Anthony Joseph Coppola

Anthony Joseph Coppola, a former process engineer, loving father and beloved husband, passed away on February 28, at the age of 83. Anthony was born and raised in Boston, where he lived until he moved to Chelsea, MA. Chelsea was where Anthony went to high school. While in high school he met Carol and the two hit it off. The high school sweethearts were inseparable. In 1963, they moved out of Chelsea and bought land in Burlington, where Carol’s dad built their forever home on Sheldon Street.

Anthony and Carol raised their three children, Anthony Jr., Chris, and Allison in Burlington. They had lots of fun traveling around New England, visiting camp sites in Steep Falls, Maine and camping until Carol joked that Anthony was great cooking over the open fire while they camped, but couldn’t boil water in their home. When they weren’t camping or at home, Anthony and Carol enjoyed traveling all around. They took trips with the kids to Disney and a road trip to Pennsylvania. They also traveled together, just the two of them. Some of the more memorable trips that Anthony and Carol took were a relaxing vacation to Mexico, and a scenic road trip to Canada, where they visited Nova Scotia, Sydney Harbour, Montreal, and Quebec.

Anthony was a simple man, who loved to his morning crosswords. He loved exercising his mind every morning and prided himself on his engineering background. He was extremely detail oriented and had phenomenal penmanship. Anthony was also very active with the Knights of Columbus, and ran the annual Tootsie Roll Drive which raises money for the intellectually disabled. He was an avid reader, and would dive into any leaflet if you put it in front of him. He always wanted to be invested in something and gaining knowledge.

Anthony’s pride and joy were his grandchildren. He cherished time with them and his calming presence was infectious. Often times, when he and the kids were sitting around, he would doze off and the grandkids would too.

Anthony was the beloved husband of Carol Coppola of Tewksbury, MA. He was the loved father of Anthony Coppola Jr. and his wife Ellen of Salem, NH, Chris Coppola and his wife Marissa of Weymouth, MA and Allison Difelice and her husband Robert of Tewksbury, MA. He was the proud grandfather of Kimberly Doyle, Christopher Coppola Jr., and Austin and Matthew Difelice, as well as the great grandfather to Ella, Nora, Timmy, Rory, Christopher III, Benjamin and a seventh great grandchild on the way.

A funeral mass for Anthony will be held at St. Margaret Church, 111 Winn Street, Burlington, MA 01803, on Saturday, March 9, at 10 AM. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Burlington Knights of Columbus Council 4978, at PO Box 25, Burlington, MA 01803.
