Obituary

Shirley S. Chen of Medford, formerly of Burlington, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 23, 2026. Throughout her life, she faced numerous health challenges with quiet strength and resilience, including multiple battles with cancer, which most recently returned in an aggressive form.

Born in Cambridge, Shirley was raised in Burlington and was a proud member of the Burlington High School Class of 1982. She went on to further her education, earning her Bachelor's degree from Boston University.

Shirley will be remembered as a gentle spirit, a woman of quiet strength, and a faithful servant of God.

She found deep joy in reading the Bible, attending church, and living out her faith each day. Time with family and friends was especially meaningful to her, and she cherished the Christmas season—for its celebration of Christ and for the opportunity to give to others. Gift-giving was her love language, and she took great care in choosing thoughtful, beautifully wrapped presents for those she loved.

Shirley also enjoyed writing letters and sending cards, often sharing simple, heartfelt messages that brought encouragement and warmth to those who received them.

Though she lived modestly, Shirley was generous beyond measure. She gave freely and was always willing to open her heart and her home to those in need. Her kindness and compassion were a true reflection of her character.

Her life was a quiet testament to faith, humility, and generosity. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her

Shirley was the beloved daughter of Hsueh Yi Chen of Westborough and the late Johanna (Wang) Chen. She was the devoted sister of Sandy Dekoschak and her husband, Mark, of Westborough, and the late Stanley Chen. She was a loving aunt to Noah Dekoschak of Westborough.

A graveside service will be held at Chestnut Hill Cemetery, 52 Bedford Street, Burlington, on Sunday, March 29 at 1:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Arrangements are under the care of the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, Burlington.
