Richard “Dick” A. Holmberg, age 90, passed away unexpectedly at Winchester Hospital on Saturday, September 26, 2026, with his loving family by his side. He was the devoted husband of Barbara (Brakus) Holmberg, with whom he shared nearly 70 wonderful years of marriage.

Born in Somerville, Massachusetts, on May 13, 1936, he was the only child of the late B. Walter and Esther (Elfstrom) Holmberg. Richard graduated from Somerville High School before proudly enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. It was during his time in the service that he met the love of his life, Barbara, while they were both stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. It did not take long for the two to realize they were meant for one another, and following their honorable discharges, they settled in Somerville to begin their life together and raise their family.

Richard worked as an electrician and was a proud member of IBEW Local 103 for many years prior to his retirement. While he took great pride in his work, his greatest joy in life was being a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and family man. There was nothing on earth that mattered more to Richard than his family. When his four children came along, he became an unwavering source of love, guidance, and support. He was always willing to lend a hand, put others before himself, and do whatever was needed for the people he loved, never asking for anything in return. Through both his words and actions, he made those around him feel cherished, and his children and later his grandchildren always knew they could count on him.

Family vacations to Hampton Beach became a treasured tradition, as Richard and Barbara rented a cottage each summer and created countless memories with their children. He also found joy in life's simple pleasures, whether it was taking the kids to the drive-in movie theater after work or heading off on an adventure together. For Richard, the destination never mattered nearly as much as the time spent with those he loved.

After more than 26 years in Burlington, Richard and Barbara retired to Florida, where they built a fulfilling life together. They enjoyed attending weekly dances and participating in the many social events held within the clubhouse in their community. Richard was also an avid fisherman and could often be casting a line every day upon moving to Florida, a pastime that brought him great peace and happiness. He also treasured the quieter moments spent at home, watching television or movies with Barbara and simply enjoying one another's company. Their nearly seven decades together were a testament to a love that remained constant throughout their lives.

Richard will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to his family. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched and in the family he loved so deeply.

Along with his adoring wife, Barbara, Richard is survived by his four children, Mark Holmberg of Lowell, Keith Holmberg and his wife Sandy of Rutland, Doreen Glover and her husband Robert of Woburn, and Pamela Holmberg of Burlington; his cherished grandchildren, Jillian, Michael, Jacklyn, Brian, Jessica, Alex, and Sam; his loving great-grandchildren, James, Luke, Harper, and Hunter, as well as many other dear relatives and friends.
