Obituary

Mary Ellen (McCarthy) Tully, a retired Court Officer, passed away at the Lahey Clinic Hospital on Monday, March 11, 2019, she was 75 years old.

Mary Ellen was born, raised and educated in Cambridge.  She was a graduate of Notre Dame High School and received her bachelor's degree from Lowell University.   Mary Ellen moved to Burlington in 1971 where she would raise her two children.  Mary Ellen was a single mother and worked hard to provide for her children at times juggling three jobs.  She worked as a Store Defective for Jordan Marsh and had the privilege of being a special police officer with many responsibilities that her co-workers did not have.  After leaving Jordan Marsh she went on to become the first female court officer in Massachusetts and worked for over 25 years in the Lowell District Court House.   Mary Ellen took early retirement but still continued to work part-time on special projects.

Mary Ellen loved the beach.  Nothing brought her more serenity than being by the ocean so much so that she purchased a condo at York Beach in Maine.    Mary Ellen also enjoyed traveling and made trips to the West Coast of Florida, the Florida Keys as well as Quebec.     She was a woman of deep faith and a devout Catholic.

Her grandchildren where the center of her life.  Nothing brought her more joy than spending time with Cameron and Colby.    Mary Ellen will be remembered as a strong woman who worked hard to provide for her family.

Mary Ellen was the beloved mother of Scott & his wife Kristin of Littleton and Linda McCarthy & her husband Jerry of Tewksbury.   Proud grandmother of Cameron & Colby Tully and Evan McCarthy.  Sister of Elizabeth Ruth McCarthy of Burlington.  Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128/95 Woburn side) on Sunday, March 17 from 4-6 p.m.  Funeral from the Funeral Home on Monday, March 18 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Malachy Church, 99 Bedford St., Burlington at 10 a.m.  Burial to follow in Mt.
