Marjorie "Margie" R. (Fitzgerald) Statz, age 99, passed away peacefully at Community Hospice House on Friday, August 7, 2026. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Statz, with whom she shared almost 50 wonderful years of marriage before his passing.

Born in Boston, MA on December 18, 1926, she was one of two children of the late James and Margaret (Reardon) Fitzgerald. Raised in Cambridge surrounded by family, Margie developed a love for sewing and crafting at an early age, a passion that remained with her throughout her life. It was there that she met her husband, Joseph, and together they settled in Burlington, where they lovingly raised their three children.

Margie was a devoted and ever-present mother who poured her heart into caring for her family. She often made her children's clothes by hand and was known for thoughtful, creative gifts. When her grandchildren arrived, she embraced her role as grandmother with the same unwavering love, support, and enthusiasm that she had shown her children.

An adventurous spirit, Margie enjoyed traveling throughout the world. She and Joe shared many memorable cruises and trips together over the years. Following his passing, she continued to explore new places with her beloved companion, Gus, creating many more cherished memories along the way.

Margie's creativity was evident in everything she did. She loved crafting and ceramics, creating treasured holiday decorations and keepsakes that remain beloved staples in the homes of her family. She also enjoyed spending time at The Beacon in the mountains of New Hampshire, where she and Gus attended dances, enjoyed shows, and followed their favorite band whenever it was performing nearby.

In her later years, Margie remained active and engaged in her community. She was a dedicated participant at the Burlington Council on Aging, where she enjoyed exercise classes, social events, and spending time with friends. A talented ballroom dancer, she and Gus were frequent fixtures on the dance floor and were often admired for their grace and energy. No matter her age, Margie always carried herself with elegance and pride. She loved dressing up and never left the house without looking her best—at the very least, she made sure she was wearing a pair of earrings. Above all else, Margie will be remembered for her warmth, creativity, independence, adventurous spirit, and the love she shared so generously with her family and friends.

Surviving Margie are her adoring children, Margaret “Peggy” Turner and her husband David of Cape Coral, FL, Kathleen “Kathy” Sheldon and her husband George of Nashua, and Joseph “Joe” Statz and his wife Jacinthe of Hudson, NH; her cherished grandchildren, Joel Statz and his wife Meg Langford of Portland, OR, Kerri Boucher and her husband Eric of Amherst, NH, and Mallory McFarland and her husband Christian of Newport, NH; her loving niece, Debbie Pyke of Burlington; her dear friend, Nancy Olsen of Nashua, as well as many other relatives and friends.

Margie was the loving partner of the late Gus Colonna, and dear sister of the late James Fitzgerald.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation on Saturday, August 15th from 10:30 am until 12 pm at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington. Her Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home at 12 pm. Burial will immediately follow in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations in Margie’s honor may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Northern New England Chapter, or to the Community Hospice House.
