Marjorie Ann
Cimmino
August 8, 1933 – April 10, 2026
Marjorie A. (Smith) Cimmino, age 92, passed away at Lahey Hospital on April 10, 2026 surrounded by her devoted family. She was the beloved wife of the late Frank Cimmino, with whom she had shared over 52 beautiful years of marriage, prior to his passing in 2012.
Born in Lynn, MA on August 8, 1933, she was one of four children to the late Frederick and Margaret (Donovan) Smith. Marjorie was raised in Lynn and graduated from St. Mary's High School. She then went on to earn her degree from Salem State College with a Bachelor's in Education in 1954. Following her education, Marjorie met her adoring husband Frank while at a dance with her friends. She was shocked and elated to see Frank walking her way, and it wasn't long before the two were an item.
Marjorie and Frank married in 1960, and decided to settle down in "the sticks" of Burlington to raise their family. They raised their children in a home filled with love, support, and endless encouragement. When the kids were young, Marjorie decided to stop working to be a stay-at-home mom. Her constant presence, gentle nature, and unwavering dedication to family truly turned their Burlington house into a home. In their younger years they took some family vacations and road trips together, but at the end of the day just being together under one roof was enough to keep everyone happy—especially Marjorie. When her children were all in school, Marjorie went back to work in the Burlington school system as a substitute teacher, then as an instructional assistant at Pine Glen. She finally finished off her career at Burlington High School as a librarian, and truly enjoyed each moment in each different position she held.
Sundays in the Cimmino home were filled with laughter, love, and a generous meal shared by family. Marjorie made it a point to make reasons for everyone to come together. Whether it was Sunday dinners, Friday pizza nights, or the yearly family get togethers, she just wanted everyone to be together. When her grandchildren came along, in true Marjorie fashion, she became an equally nurturing and supportive Nana and GG. She relished the time spent with her grandchildren, and looked forward to each milestone they reached.
In her free time, Marjorie loved to read. There wasn't a genre or book she wasn't willing to try, and when she was given her iPad by her children, it opened a whole new world for her. She was also an active communicant of St. Margaret's Church, and in later years, watched weekly Mass on television. Most of all though, Marjorie loved being in her home and being with her family. She never had to go farther than her own home to make lasting, loving, exciting memories with her family and friends. To be surrounded by the ones she loved was Marjorie's greatest joy and achievement, and she leaves a legacy of love behind in those who were closest to her.
Surviving Marjorie are her adoring children, Joanne Ames of N. Billerica, James Cimmino of Burlington, Catherine Dyer and her husband Dennis of Lexington, and Susan Leydon and her husband Peter of Woburn; her 9 cherished grandchildren; her 13 loving great-grandchildren, as well as many other beloved family members.
Marjorie was a dear sister of the late Marion Rourke, Frederick Smith, Jr., and Carol Smith.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass for Marjorie on Wednesday, April 15th at 11 a.m. At the request of her family, all burial services will be held privately. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations in Marjorie's honor may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital .
