Lois H. (Hubbard) Davis, age 89, passed away peacefully on June 8th with her loving daughter by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Ronald F. Davis, with whom she shared over 40 wonderful years of marriage.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts on March 10, 1937, Lois was a cherished daughter of the late Raymond and Christine (Anderson) Hubbard. She was raised in Roslindale and graduated High School 1955. She attended Northeastern University and became an X-ray technician for numerous years and then worked at several local Physician Offices. She ended her career in sales at a local gift & flower shop in Hamilton.
Lois later settled in Hamilton to raise her children. An exceptional mother, she always put her family first and ensured her children were loved, supported, and given every opportunity to thrive. Her strength, determination, and unwavering devotion were evident throughout her life. She was a talented seamstress and made her daughters extraordinary creations included smocked tops, prom dress and wedding capes.
Lois had a deep love for the sea and found some of her greatest joy on the water. During her children's younger years, the family spent their summers living aboard a 60 foot fishing boat, “The Amy”, in Gloucester Harbor. Despite working in the small galley kitchen, Lois was an extraordinary cook who could effortlessly prepare both simple comforts and elaborate large meals, each one made with love.
Fishing was one of Lois's greatest passions. Strong, fearless, and determined, she earned the respect of everyone she fished alongside and could more than hold her own on any boat. Over the years, she landed an astounding 119 tuna, including her largest catch, a remarkable 1,200-pound bluefin tuna caught off Prince Edward Island. Her adventurous spirit extended far beyond fishing. Lois loved to travel and embraced life with enthusiasm, spending months at a time living aboard a boat called “El Toro” and traveled to the Mediterranean. Following her travels she spent several summers in Medira with her dear longtime close friends.
In later years, when she spent less time on the water, Lois devoted herself to knitting and needlepointing. She became well known for her beautiful Irish knit and handcrafted sweaters, afghans, baby clothes, and countless other creations. Gifted, swift, and remarkably skilled, she made even the most intricate projects appear effortless. Her afghans and knitted treasures became cherished gifts for family, friends, and even her physician, each stitch reflecting her generosity and love.
Lois will be remembered for her adventurous nature, independent spirit, and boundless compassion. She possessed a rare kindness that drew people to her, and she loved her family and friends fiercely and unconditionally. Her warmth, strength, and zest for life will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was known as Auntie LoLo to her nieces and nephews.
Surviving Lois are her dear children, Lisa Piper and husband Michael of Burlington, Susan Tremblay and husband David of Wenham, and Christine Zitso Jacques and husband Jeffrey of Newton; her step-children, Ronald F. Davis, Jr. of NC, Judith Wheatley of RI, Carolyn Fuller of NH, and Martha Kelly of Plymouth as well as many other dear nieces, nephews, and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation on Thursday, June 25th from 11 am until 12:30 pm at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington. Her Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home at 12:30. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations in Lois’s honor may be made to MSPCA or Joslin Clinic Boston.
