John J. Maffioli, 78, of Burlington, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, August 25, 2026. He was born in Brookline, the only son of the late John and Julia (Egizzio) Maffioli. John was raised and educated in the Watertown school system and was a graduate of St. Patrick’s High School.

Johnny was happily married to his beloved wife, Christine (Strangie) Maffioli, with whom he shared over 20 years filled with love, companionship, laughter, and countless memories.

Johnny started worked in a flower shop in Watertown as a teenager. Later, he owned and operated his own shop, Henry’s Florist on Mt. Auburn Street. In his later years, he operated a courier business that he really enjoyed. A true entrepreneur.

Music was a major focal point throughout Johnny’s life. He was a talented drummer who took great pride in his musical abilities and the joy that music brought him. His favorite musical highlights included opening for The Rolling Stones, and The Drifters. Johnny also possessed a wonderful gift for conversation. He could strike up a conversation with nearly anyone he met and had a way of holding their attention with his stories, humor, and genuine interest in others.

White Horse Beach in Plymouth was his favorite place. He started going there with his band in the 1960’s, and he never left. His time and friendships from White Horse are some of the most precious. He could spend hours soaking up the sun and enjoying the beach, drinking a pony, sitting on the porch at the cottage, and making time with all his friends. He was especially proud of his tan, that he would claim to be the best on the beach.

Johnny also loved Walt Disney World. His family had an annual trip that was like a reunion. The group grew to over 25 family members meeting in Orlando to enjoy the magic. This tradition continued up until present time.

Above all else, John was immensely proud of his family. He cherished his role as Papa to his grandchildren and took great pride in each of them. Their accomplishments, happiness, and lives were a constant source of joy for him, and he treasured the special bond they shared.

Johnny also maintained a lasting friendship with his former wife, Darlene (Bird) Maffioli, remaining close to her until her passing in 2023. Their friendship as grandparents set a wonderful example of the importance of family.

John was predeceased by his sister, Lisa Palumbo.

He is survived by his adoring wife Christine Maffioli of Burlington, his beloved daughter, Jodi Nevola and her husband Bob of Burlington, his loving grandchildren, Bobby, Holly, and Joseph, a sister, Carol O’Connell and her husband Ken of Townsend, MA as well as many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his Funeral Mass on Wednesday, September 2nd, at 10am at St. Margaret’s Church 111 Winn St., Burlington. Interment will be private and at the convenience of his family.
