Obituary

John "Jack" E. Levey, age 91, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2026, at his home in Derry, NH. He was the beloved husband of the late Jean (Colangelo) Levey, with whom he shared 63 wonderful years of marriage before her passing in 2021.

Born in Waltham, MA, on February 2, 1935, Jack was one of three children of the late John W. and Ellen (Collins) Levey. He was raised in Waltham and graduated from Waltham High School with the Class of 1955.

Jack served for four years in the U.S. Army, stationed in West Germany. It was there that his son, John, was born. After his military service, he earned his certification as a master plumber and went on to build a successful career doing work he genuinely enjoyed. Known for his strong work ethic, Jack worked on projects throughout the greater Boston area and spent many years with Bay State York Company, and was a member of the Local Union 12 for 57 years.

In his free time, Jack loved getting out on the golf course. Whether playing at local courses or traveling to renowned greens, he was always eager for what the next round would bring. One of his proudest accomplishments was making a hole-in-one at Ferncroft Country Club.

When he wasn't golfing, Jack and Jean enjoyed spending time at their home in Bradenton, Florida, where they built many cherished friendships. There, he could often be found freshwater fishing in the pond just outside their house. Jack was also a devoted New England sports fan who rarely missed an opportunity to catch a Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, or Bruins game. Above all, Jack was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who treasured the time he spent with family and friends. He enjoyed sharing his hobbies with his grandchildren, especially fishing and sporting events. His quick wit, sarcasm, and jokes were always sure to bring a smile at family gatherings, bocce tournaments, and day-to-day encounters. He could often be remembered at holidays with a giant camcorder on his shoulder. He wasn’t always the center of attention, but was always taking it all in and savoring the memories. He was a constant in the lives of the people he loved most.

Surviving Jack is his loving son, John A. Levey of Plaistow, NH; his three cherished grandchildren, Gina Dunn and husband Matt of Derry, NH, Krista Levey of Salem, MA, Michael Levey of Middleton, MA; his great-grandchildren, Jay and Joey; as well as many other beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. Jack was the dear brother of the late Charles W. Levey and Francis J. Levey.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation on Wednesday, August 12th from 9:30 am until 11 am at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington. His Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home at 11 am. Burial will immediately follow in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations in Jack’s honor may be made to the American Cancer Society.
