Joan M. (Lydon) Lamb, age 85, passed away peacefully at Care Dimensions in Lincoln on Sunday, September 27, with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of Ronald J. Lamb, with whom she shared over 65 wonderful years of marriage.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, on October 27, 1940, Joan was one of two children born to the late John A. and Mary J. (Tucker) Lydon. She was raised in the West End of Boston and later moved to Brighton, MA where she graduated from Our Lady of the Presentation in 1958. One of her fondest childhood memories were in the West End skating on the Charles River with her dad. Following graduation, Joan started her working career at Boston College as secretary to the Chairman of Economics before moving to many other companies including Ward Steel, Alpha Graphics, and Digital Equipment Corporation.

Joan met the love of her life, Ron, while out at a Catholic Youth Organization dance with her friends in Boston one evening. When they had a moment alone together, Ron gathered the courage to ask for Joan’s phone number, and the rest, as they say, was history. The couple married on April 8, 1961, and eventually settled in Burlington, MA, where they built a beautiful life together and raised their family.

When her children arrived, Joan devoted herself wholeheartedly to her role as a homemaker, wife (which included keeping Ron in line) and mother and became a constant source of guidance and support for all of them. During this time, she became deeply involved in improving her neighborhood and community, serving as a Den Mother for her children's scouting activities, becoming a member of the school curriculum committee, and successfully advocating for the installation of speed bumps in the Fox Hill neighborhood. She was also a founding member of the committee that worked tirelessly to secure the construction of Burlington’s new high school that has left its mark on generations of students.

A lifelong learner, Joan believed deeply in the power of education and loved sharing that passion with others. One of her greatest joys was hosting annual summer book clubs for neighborhood children, encouraging a love of reading and learning. She was especially proud of the time she spent auditing courses at Boston College, pursuing knowledge during an era when educational opportunities for women were often limited.

In her free time, Joan enjoyed writing, particularly poetry, and found great joy in the arts. She loved spending evenings in Boston attending theatrical performances, like CATS, and Phantom of the Opera and cherished the tradition of seeing The Nutcracker each year with her daughter. Music was another lifelong passion, and she looked forward to taking her children to performances by the Boston Pops.

At her core, Joan was an endlessly loving, spunky, and spontaneous spirit. She possessed a natural warmth and magnetism that drew people to her, whether they were lifelong friends, new acquaintances, babies, and even animals, especially dogs. Elegant and graceful, she carried herself with confidence and kindness, whether she was ballroom dancing with her beloved Ron, or catching up with family and friends. Joan will be remembered for her impeccable sense of style, her vibrant and gregarious personality, and her remarkable ability to make everyone around her feel welcomed, valued, and loved. Her presence enriched countless lives, and her memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Along with her devoted husband Ron, Joan is survived by her loving children, John Gerard Lamb of Naperville, IL, Gregory Lydon Lamb and his wife Andrea of Burlington, and Elizabeth Marie Allen and her husband Richard Martin Allen Jr of Naperville, IL; her cherished grandchildren, Nicole Marie Barbetta, Rachael Elizabeth Fortunato, Gregory Lydon Lamb, Jr., Gerard Michael Lamb, Collin James Lamb, Jessica Mae Gipson, Richard Martin Allen III, Delia Lydon Allen, Gregory John Allen, and Hope Cecelia Allen; her loving great-grandchildren, Madison Barbetta, Emma Barbetta, Joseph Fortunato Jr, Scarlett Fortunato, Maeve Gipson, Greer Gipson, Lydon Gipson, and Richard Allen IV (Dickie) Allen, as well as many other dear relatives and friends.

Joan was also the loving sister of the late Patricia Lydon.

Friends and family are invited to attend visitation on Friday, October 2nd from 4 pm until 7 pm at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington. Her Funeral will begin from the Funeral Home on Saturday, October 3rd at 9 am with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 am at St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington. Burial will immediately follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, W. Roxbury. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations in Joan’s honor may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
