Obituary

Irene E. (Foley) Delfino, 95, a longtime resident of Burlington at Sunrise Assisted Living, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.

Born and raised in Stoneham, Irene was the beloved daughter of the late Mabel (Wetherbee) Foley. She was educated in the Stoneham school system and graduated from Stoneham High School. She grew up in a lovely home on Atwood Ave with her mother, Uncle Roy, and sister Marion.

Irene met the love of her life, Nicholas J. Delfino, while attending a dance at the Strand Theater in Woburn. Their love story began quickly, and the two were married at the tender ages of 18 and 20, beginning a lifelong journey together built on love, devotion, and hard work.

As young parents raising their growing family, Irene worked nights on the assembly line at Wakefield Engineering while Nicholas worked days, together making countless sacrifices to provide a comfortable home for their children on Park St. and finally on Forest St. Family was always at the center of Irene’s world. She took pride in raising her four daughters and found her greatest joy in the simple moments, sitting on her deck greeting walkers, neighbors and so many friends, and time spent with her grandchildren and loved ones.

One of Irene’s happiest places was her beloved little blue rental cottage in Wells, Maine, which became the backdrop for countless cherished family vacations and gatherings over the years. Those summers spent by the ocean created some of the family’s most treasured memories filled with laughter, lobster bakes, beach days, card games, and evenings spent together on the cottage porch enjoying the sunset on the marsh. To her children and grandchildren, the little blue cottage will forever symbolize the warmth, love, and closeness that Irene so enjoyed.

Irene had a wonderful sense of humor and was known for bringing laughter and fun wherever she went. Halloween was her favorite holiday, and she absolutely delighted in playfully scaring her children and grandchildren year after year. In her younger years, she enjoyed roller-skating and swimming and spending many happy days visiting her favorite shops and outlet stores.

She enjoyed baking with her aunt Mildred whose annual visit from Vermont produced homemade pies, donuts and chaos at the Forest Street home. Alongside her husband Nicholas, she also enjoyed dancing, and the two shared many wonderful memories as members of the Winchester Sons of Italy, the Stoneham Marconi Club, and bowling leagues in Stoneham, Wakefield and Reading.

In addition to her mother, she was sadly predeceased by her husband Nicholas J. Delfino, a sister, Marian Shea, a son-in-law, Michael Pelletier, and a grandson Nathan Chapman.

Irene is survived by her daughters, Carol A. Psallidas and her husband Paul of Malden, Donna M. Chapman of Everett, Karen L. Pelletier of Reading, and Gloria Calicchio and her husband Fred of Burlington, eight grandchildren, Jennifer Psallidas and her husband Malachy Bear, Justin Chapman, Gabrielle Irene DeRose and her husband Larry, Darryl Calicchio and his wife Emily, Desiree Pelletier and her husband Kyle Bennedict, Dominic Calicchio and his wife Adriana, Anna Pelletier, Michael Pelletier, four great granddaughters, Zoe Psallidas, Charlotte Calicchio, Dorothy Calicchio, and Sienna Calicchio as well as many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her visitation on Monday, June 1st from 10AM to 12 Noon at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St. Burlington. A Funeral Home Service will follow the visitation starting at 12 Noon. Burial will follow in Munroe Cemetery, Lexington. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at donorservices.Alzheimer's Association .
