Glenna D. (Gingras) Hawthorne, 93, a long-time resident of Woburn and retired Certified Nursing Assistant, passed away Monday, October 23, 2023 at the Lahey Hospital in Burlington.

She was born in Somerville the only daughter of the late Leo D. and Blanche (Goulet) Gingras. She was educated in Somerville parochial and public schools, and graduated from Somerville High School prior to starting an exemplary 30-year career in nursing.

Glenna was an amazingly strong and confident woman who was always looking to protect the best interests of her family and friends alike. Her loving and charismatic nature made it easy for her to make friends and embody what it means to be gregarious. She had a sharp intellect, creative spark and artistic ability. In earlier years, whether it was through her cooking, gardening or paintings that were on display, it was clear that her abilities were fully expressed. In the most recent years, she enjoyed the opportunity to spend time with friends and family, greet her neighbors from the deck and sit at her kitchen table, and catch up with the Woburn Daily Times.

She was sadly predeceased by her daughter Nancy Crawford and her husband Bill Hawthorne.

Glenna is survived by her granddaughter, Michelle Crawford of Woburn and her great-grandchildren Taurean Crawford and Zhahira Crawford, and a host of loving friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her visitation from 1PM to 2PM on Saturday, October 28, at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington. Her funeral service will follow in the funeral home at 2:00PM. Burial will be private and at the convenience of her family.
