George L. Doble, 81, of Burlington, passed away on September 14th.

George was born and raised in Rochester, New York, the son of the late John and Angeline (Testin) Doble. He received his early education at Aquinas High School in Rochester before continuing to Niagara University and then on to St. John Fisher College where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Accounting. It was in college that he met his future best friend and love of his life Judy Walker, his wife of 55 years.

Following college, George served his country as a member of the United States Army Reserve. He and Judy then made the move to the Boston area, where they would establish their home and welcome two sons Gregg and Marc. George was an amazing Dad and always put family first. He was kind, loving, and dependable. He was always willing to lend a hand, offer advice, or simply be there whenever his sons needed him.

George was, quite simply, a genuinely nice guy. He never helped someone because he wanted recognition or praise; he helped because something needed to be done and he knew that he could do it.

A gifted handyman, George was particularly talented with tools. There seemed to be very little he could not build, repair, improve, or figure out. His family experienced his talents firsthand when George helped construct additions to the family homes and renovate both of his sons’ homes. For George, these projects were never about showcasing what he could accomplish. They were simply another opportunity to make life a little better for the people he loved.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, when local students suddenly found themselves learning remotely from home, George recognized a need and decided to do something about it. He built 55 desks with wood by hand, so local students could have a comfortable and dedicated place to learn at home. In typical George fashion, simply building the desks was not enough. He went the extra mile, carving each student's name into their desk so that every child receiving one would know that the desk had been made especially for them.

George was proud to volunteer and help Seniors with their finances through Cape Cod Elder Services.

For all the people whose lives George touched, no role brought him greater pride than being a husband, father, and grandfather. He adored his five grandchildren and developed a unique and special relationship with each of them.

Some of George's happiest moments came when everyone was able to gather together. Family time could quickly turn competitive over games of Euchre or Kubb, but for George, having the people he loved together in one place was what mattered most.

George and Judy loved traveling and spending quality time with family and friends. One of their favorite places was Bermuda.

Yet for all the beautiful places George visited, one of his favorite places was his Beach House in Yarmouth, which was his happy place where he could enjoy time with family, friends and staying active. Few things brought him greater peace than heading out on his paddleboard in the ocean.

George was predeceased by his siblings Patricia Loopman and Mary Ann Magin.

In addition to Judy (his wife and best friend), he is survived by his two sons, Gregg Doble and his wife Laura of North Reading, and Marc Doble and his wife Jean of Newbury Park, CA, five beloved grandchildren, Trevor Wilson, Kevin Doble, Parker Doble, Mary Doble and Siena Doble, his siblings, John Doble, Jean Ryan, Rose Dickinson and Loretta Bellenger, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and two amazing Granddogs, Finn and Henry.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his visiting hours on Monday, October 12th from 1pm to 3pm at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St. Burlington. A brief prayer service will follow in the funeral home at 3pm. Interment will be private and at the convenience of his family.
