Gennaro “Lou” Laghetto, 86, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Irene (Paiva) Laghetto, with whom he shared more than 65 years of marriage and 72 years of life together.

Born on February 25, 1940, Lou was the son of the late Louis and Clara (Caliendo) Laghetto. He grew up in Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School with the Class of 1958. Lou was active and athletic throughout his life, always enjoying sports and staying busy.

Lou met Irene when they were young teenagers, and together they built a beautiful life. After marrying in 1961, they settled in Burlington, where they raised their four children. Lou was a devoted father who worked two jobs, but never missed the important moments in his children’s lives. He was always there for school events, sporting competitions, recitals, and milestones, cheering them on every step of the way.

His love and devotion continued with his grandchildren. Lou and Irene traveled near and far to attend their events, making sure no matter how busy the schedule, he was there to support each of them. Family was always his greatest source of pride and joy.

Lou loved staying busy. He was always doing home improvement projects and took great pride in remodeling and improving his home. He also remained active throughout his life, playing tennis, handball and racquetball, spending time at the YMCA and enjoying golf with friends.

Lou and Irene also shared many wonderful years of travel visiting other countries and going to Aruba for 3 weeks every year. Many of these memories were shared with their close-knit group of Burlington friends, friendships that lasted for decades.

Above all, Lou was a calm, kind, dependable, and loving presence. He was generous with his time and always willing to lend a hand. His devotion to Irene, his children, grandchildren, family, and friends was evident in everything he did. He leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love, hard work, dedication, and selflessness.

Along with his loving wife, Irene, Lou leaves his children, Michael Laghetto and his wife Anne of Danvers, David Laghetto and his wife Tracey of Raynham, Denise O’Halloran and her husband Patrick of Burlington, and Kimberley Redfield and her late husband Scott of GA; his cherished grandchildren, Jake Laghetto, Samantha Hartman, Caitlin Hartman, Laney Laghetto, Hannah Laghetto, Shane O’Halloran, John Laghetto, and Patrick O’Halloran; and one great-grandchild on the way. He also leaves his dear siblings, Helen Sereno of Myrtle Beach, NC, and Robert Laghetto of Ohio, as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives, and close friends. He was the loving brother of the late Josephine Fieremonte and Jean Zwirble.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Lou’s Funeral Mass on Wednesday, September 16, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington. Burial will immediately follow at Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations in Lou’s honor may be made to Mass General Hospital Cancer Center.
