Francis "Frank" M
Norton
January 9, 1939 – April 25, 2026
Francis M. "Frank" Norton, 87 of Burlington, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his own home on Saturday evening, April 25, surrounded by the love, care, and comfort of his devoted family.
Born and raised in Taunton, he was the only child of the late Francis P. and Grace Elizabeth (Valente) Norton. As a young man, Frank demonstrated a strong sense of discipline and faith. He was an Eagle Scout and served as an altar boy at St. Mary's Church. A gifted student, he graduated at the top of his class from Coyle Cassidy High School before going on to earn his undergraduate degree in Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and later a Master's Degree in Business Administration from Northeastern University.
Frank built a distinguished career as an operations manager engineer with EG&G, where his intellect, leadership, and dedication earned him the respect of colleagues throughout his many years of service.
In his early years, Frank shared a special and enduring bond with his mother. Together, they traveled by train across the country, creating lasting memories, and he remained her devoted son until her passing.
Frank met the love of his life, Carol Ann (DeMar) Norton, in a way that would become a favorite family story. Though they shared mutual friends and had lived less than a mile apart in Taunton, it was not until their first date, a game of tennis, that their lives truly connected, sparking a lifelong partnership. They were married in 1961, and in 1966 they settled in Burlington, where they built their forever home and raised their family.
Their marriage was marked by deep love, mutual respect, shared Catholic values, and a spirit of adventure. Together, Frank and Carol traveled the world, exploring historic and breathtaking destinations across Europe, Russia, China, Egypt, Morocco, and South America. They shared more than 20 river and ocean cruises, each journey adding to a lifetime of treasured memories.
Frank embraced fatherhood with pride and purpose. He and Carol raised four daughters, and he set high expectations rooted in integrity, education, and service to others. He believed strongly in raising good people and good citizens and encouraged his children to pursue higher education and to give back to their communities. He created countless family memories through camping trips, mountain hikes, and canoeing adventures, sharing his deep love of nature, one of his greatest joys, with each of his daughters.
Frank was a constant and enthusiastic presence in the lives of his grandchildren, taking great pride in supporting each of their pursuits. Whether cheering from the sidelines at baseball and football games, attending track meets and gymnastics competitions, or sitting proudly in the audience at theater productions, he was always there. His quiet encouragement and steady presence meant the world to them, and he celebrated each of their accomplishments, big and small.
A lifelong learner, Frank had an insatiable curiosity and a love for knowledge. Whether visiting museums, studying history and art, or reading, often finishing five books a week, he remained intellectually engaged throughout his life.
Frank also found great joy in gardening, a passion he shared with Carol as they lovingly tended to their perennial/vegetable garden. He enjoyed sailing, beginning with a small vessel and eventually purchasing a larger boat, proudly naming it "My Fair Ladies" in tribute to his beloved wife and daughters. Frugal by nature, Frank appreciated the value of hard work and simple pleasures. He enjoyed collecting stamps/coins, and studying genealogy, hobbies that reflected both his curiosity about the world and his thoughtful, deliberate character.
Deeply committed to his community, Frank was actively involved in Burlington town government. He regularly attended Town Meeting and served as Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee. He was a proud Burlingtonian who believed in civic duty and took great pride in contributing to the betterment of his town.
Frank was sadly predeceased by his loving wife Carol (DeMar) Norton who passed away in September of 2025.
He was the loving father of Kathleen Whitman and her husband Michael of Marlborough, Julie Feierstein and her partner Mary Barbarow of Sterling, Rosemary Callahan and her husband Paul of Acton, and Jennifer DiSanto and her husband Christopher of Fairfield, CT. Frank was the proud grandfather of Sarah Feierstein, Joshua Feierstein and his wife Rosa, Matthew Feierstein, Jason Feierstein, Michael Whitman, Madeline Whitman, Adam Callahan, and Jonathan DiSanto. He was the great grandfather of Natalie Cardin and Elias Matos.
