Flora (Iskenderian) Matossian, age 81, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 30, 2026, with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Haroutune Matossian, with whom she had shared over 48 wonderful years of marriage prior to his passing.
Born in Beit Jala, Bethlehem, on October 27, 1945, she was one of three children to the late Sahag and Lusaper (Abdallah Ayed) Iskenderian. Flora was raised in Beit Jala, where she became fluent in five languages from a young age. At just 15 years old, she married her husband, Haroutune, and together they quickly began building a life and family. In 1969, Haroutune traveled to the United States to prepare a home for the family. In May of 1970, Flora, their three children, and her in-laws followed, all coming together to establish a new life in America.
Flora was a woman of deep and devout faith and was an active communicant of St. Stephen's Church in Watertown. She was a dedicated member of the Ladies Auxiliary, the Ladies Guild, and the Armenian Relief Society, and was even recognized her for more than 50 years of membership.
Flora's greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially when she had the opportunity to cook for them. She expressed her love through her incredible cooking, particularly her traditional Armenian dishes. She always took special care in remembering her children and grandchildren’s favorite meals and never needed much of an excuse to prepare something special for them. Every dish was a labor of love, and a reflection of just how deeply she cared for those around her.
Her family was her greatest source of happiness, and that joy was unmistakable whenever they were together. Whether she meant to or not, Flora had an innate way of keeping everyone laughing and entertained. She loved to laugh, dance, and lift the spirits of everyone fortunate enough to be in her presence. In recent years, she even surprised her family with her unexpected talent for playing the harmonica, creating yet another cherished, lifelong memory for them to enjoy.
Flora also loved relaxing with her favorite soap operas, always with a snack or bowl of fruit in hand. She enjoyed watching Lebanese soaps, and comparing notes with her daughters-in-law about The Bold and the Beautiful. Yet, as much as she enjoyed these little pleasures, nothing meant more to her than simply being surrounded by her family. She doted on those she loved, whether it was by caring devotedly for family members during times of illness or finding countless ways to spoil her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Flora had a remarkable gift for making the people in her life feel loved and cared for, and her will forever be cherished for the warmth, laughter, and unconditional love she shared with them.
Surviving Flora are her three adoring sons, Hagop Matossian and his partner Lisa Silverio of Andover, Karekine Matossian and his wife Leslie of Needham, and Barkev Matossian and his wife Mary of Burlington; her cherished grandchildren, Adam, Alex, Nicholas, Matthew, Melanie and Christopher Matossian; her loving great-grandchildren, Hunter and Stiles Matossian; her loving siblings, Hagop Iskenderian and his wife Mary of Sydney, AUS, and Azniv Tachjian and her husband Krikor of Sydney, AUS, as well as many other dear niece, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and beloved friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation on Wednesday, November 4th from 11 am until 12 pm at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington. Her Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home at 12 pm. Burial will immediately follow in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.
