Obituary

Elizabeth “Betty” Andon’s life journey came to a peaceful close on June 28, 2026, at the Lily House in Wellfleet, Massachusetts. Born on June 12,1926 as one of ten children to Nicholas and Nedrechka (Jennie) Stevens in Dorchester, Massachusetts, Betty was close to and cherished her family throughout her entire life.

Betty was a remarkable woman of immense pride, strength, courage, independence, and dedication to her entire family. On her recent birthday on June 12, Betty reached a milestone few are blessed to see — her 100th birthday. On that festive and loving day, she was surrounded by her three devoted children, who were Betty’s greatest treasures— Lynda Stamboni and her husband Jim, Barbara Andon and her husband Thomas Skopek, and Arthur Andon and his wife Christine. Betty’s beloved grandchildren include — Lisa Paolillo, Laura Gouveia, Jennifer Andon, and Jeffrey Andon; and her cherished great grandchildren include — Alyssa and Giana Paolillo, and Stella Gouveia.

Betty was the heart of the Andon family. She was an excellent cook and baker who enjoyed cooking food for family and friends that represented her Albanian heritage. She had a talent for preparing the most delicious baklava and Lakror me presh (phyllo pie with leeks), which was her favorite! Betty also loved listening to music, dancing, and watching the crystals hanging in her window cast rainbows on the wall. She loved caring for, propagating, and sharing her many house plants and of learning with continued great interest what all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were doing! Betty lived a long and meaningful life. Each member of her family is fortunate to carry a piece of her strong will, spirit, kindness, and her unwavering love.

A memorial gathering celebrating Betty’s life will be held on Monday, August 17, 2026, from 4 PM to 7 PM at Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn Street, Burlington, MA. We invite all who knew and loved Betty to join us in honoring her memory. Betty’s private funeral will be held the following day at Mount Auburn Cemetery and attended by her immediate family. Those who wish to remember her may do so through a gift to the Lily House, whose care brought her great comfort in her final days. Betty’s story is one of pride, strong will, and love that spanned generations. Though she has left this world, she will not be forgotten and will forever be remembered in our hearts.
