Edward Tkacs, of Burlington, age 94, peacefully passed away on Saturday, March 1st with his loving sons and family by his side.  He was the beloved husband of the late Madeline Ann Grieco Tkacs, with whom he had share over 57 wonderful years of marriage prior to her passing in 2009.

Born in Braddock, PA on August 10, 1930, he was the only son of the late Andrew who was born in Czechoslovakia and Stella Sopko Tkacs who was born in the United States.

Ed proudly enlisted in the United States Navy prior to his high school graduation.  He served honorably during the Korean War. He was originally assigned to submarine duty. When he had completed several electronics and radio courses provide by the Navy, Ed was assigned duty with the VC-12/VAW-12 and began working as a radio and radar operator, applying his education to what he loved, flying off aircraft carriers in support of other ships. He loved the Navy. He met the love of his life Madeline, when on leave from his station at Quonset Point , Rhode Island. She lived in East Boston. He traveled back and forth for a while, but knew his military career paled in comparison to the life he planned to live with Madeline.

After his Honorable discharge after 6 years, Ed and Madeline settled down in Peabody to start raising their family. They lived there while Ed and his father built a home for them up the road.  A few years later Ed and his family settled down in the home he built with his Dad. Ed went back to complete his GED to start his new career off strong.  Working for RCA in Waltham, he transferred to the new Burlington RCA facility, so he and the family packed up and finally settled down in Burlington in 1963.

Ed loved his town of Burlington.  He wrote a small editorial piece in the local paper called "Tkacs Talk". He was part of the groundbreaking group for the new Town Hall built back in the 1970's and was a member of the Burlington COA. He was a long-time member of the B.P.O.E .Lodge 2071  in Billerica.

Ed was a devoted Boston sports fan. As a Patriots fan he started watching when the Pats were the "Boston Patriots" and played at B.U.'s Nickerson Field in 1960. He held season tickets for the Bruins for several years in the early 70's heydays. Above everything though, even his beloved Patriots, Bruins and Red Sox, Ed loved his family.  He was unbelievably grateful for his loving wife, children and grandchildren, and as he got older his love and appreciation for them only grew tenfold.

Surviving Ed are his devoted sons, Andrew and John Tkacs, Andrews wife Donna of Billerica ; his dear grandchildren, Ronald Tkacs, Jennifer Fulgoni and her husband David, Johns daughters Madeline Tkacs and Alice Tkacs; his two great-grandchildren, Alivia Fulgoni and Alissa Fulgoni, as well as many other dear family and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation on Saturday, March 8th from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington.  Ed's Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home at 12 p.m. Burial will immediately follow at Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.
