Obituary

Edmund "Eddie” Joseph Grammer, age 69, of Woburn, formerly of Weymouth, Roslindale and Jamaca Plain, passed away unexpectedly on August 16, 2026. Eddie was a remarkable man who lived his faith through actions. He was deeply caring, dependable, selfless, and made an everlasting impact on everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Maureen E. (Davies). They were inseparable; they built a life full of joy, music, and adventure. Eddie and Maureen shared a beautiful bond rooted in their mutual love for their Irish heritage. They loved going on nature walks, listening to Irish music, traveling, and dancing through life together. They were best friends and endlessly devoted to one another.

Born in Boston on April 28, 1957, to the late Edmund Dexter Grammer and Virginia A. (Devlin) Grammer. Loving brother to Christopher J. Grammer and his wife Maryanne of West Roxbury, Dr. Elaine M. Grammer-Pacicco and her husband Dr. Thomas J. Pacicco of North Carolina, Paul F. Grammer, Robert J. Grammer and the late Marilyn V. Grammer of Roslindale. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.

Growing up as the oldest of six children, Eddie naturally stepped into a leadership role early in life. His family could always count on him to consistently step up and give a helping hand whenever needed. Even with the heavy responsibility of being the eldest, Eddie maintained calm confidence through every challenge and maintained an easy-going approach to life.

A proud alumnus of the Boston Latin School, Boston University School of Fine Arts, and Lesley University, Eddie dedicated his life to sharing the gift of music. Eddie poured his heart into teaching for 35 years to countless students across Massachusetts Public Schools. He spent 26 of those years as the High School and Middle School Band Director for the Town of Stoneham. His love for guiding young musicians also extended to higher education, where he spent over a decade inspiring college students as the Jazz Band Director at Bentley University.

Eddie’s love for music went far beyond the classroom. Starting at the age of 13, he played in his first rock band. Over the course of his life, he brought a lot of joy to audiences all over the Boston area. With great joy and pride, he shared his talents as a singer and guitarist with several local Irish, pop, and rock bands, and loved playing solo gigs. Music truly never stopped for Eddie, who was always ready to sing a silly tune and bring a smile to anyone nearby.

He was a devoted father to Elizabeth D. Grammer and her husband Ian Howe of New York, Kevin E. Grammer and his wife Jillian Piccione of New York, Patricia A. Waldron and her husband William of Middleton, Shannon T. Lynch and her partner Andrew of Woburn, Siobhan E. Sylvain and her husband Zachary of Florida, Devin L. Coss and her husband Daniel of

Winchester, Fallon M. Tuminelli and her husband Joseph of Woburn, Bridget E. Lynch and her partner Edward of Waltham, Seadna C. Lynch and her partner Alexander of Waltham, and Sinead A. Lynch of Woburn.

Of all the titles he held, ‘Grandpa' was his absolute favorite. Eddie is also survived by his 11 grandchildren, Leonardo and Andreas Piccione Grammer; Melanie and Sabrina Waldron; Leoardo Sgroi, Madailein, Aidan, Ellen, and Carolyn Sylvain; and Emma and Anthony Tuminelli. His grandchildren were the absolute center of his world; he was the happiest when spending time with them.

Eddie was fun, playful, and dedicated endless time to being deeply involved with his grandchildren. They adored him, constantly asked for him, and rushing straight to his side with open arms. He carried his love for them wherever he went, frequently bragging about their achievements and eagerly showing off pictures to anyone who would look.

When he wasn’t making music, Eddie found peace and happiness in the simple beauties of everyday life. He was an avid gardener, a passionate soccer player, a quiet bird watcher, and a devoted animal lover who cherished his pets.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, August 28th, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn Street, Burlington, MA 01803. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 29th, at 11:00 AM at St. Margaret Church, 111 Winn Street, Burlington, MA 01803. Burial will immediately follow in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. Flowers are encouraged to be sent in Eddie’s memory, directly to the funeral home.
