Dennis Edward Delorey, 85, of Burlington, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.
Born in Lynn, Dennis was one of three children of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Power) Delorey. He was raised in part by his beloved aunt, Catherine Power, who played an important role in his upbringing. Dennis was a devout Catholic who lived his faith. He was an exceptionally intelligent man who valued education and learning throughout his life. He was a graduate of Merrimack College and went on to earn his Master’s Degree from Boston College. Dennis had a long and distinguished career as a mathematician and research scientist, with particular expertise in orbital mechanics working for Boston College. He contributed to NASA and U.S. Air Force programs involving rockets, satellites, and spacecraft, dedicating 46 years to his profession before retirement.
While Dennis was accomplished professionally, it was his family and the life they built together that brought him his greatest happiness. He was the loving husband of Nancy (Regan) Delorey, and together they shared 61 years of marriage. Dennis enjoyed an active life of playing tennis, sailing, skiing, racquetball and water skiing. No matter where he was, family time was the most important to him. Dennis was a devoted and supportive father and grandfather. He took great pride in his children and grandchildren and was always there to encourage them, celebrate their accomplishments, and simply enjoy their company. He cherished watching his family grow and took great delight in being a PaPa.
A lifelong New England sports fan, cheering for the Celtics and the Patriots during their championship years as well as their rebuilding years, Dennis however, was particularly passionate about the Boston Red Sox. He followed the team faithfully and, like so many longtime fans, never imagined he would actually live to see the day the “Curse” was reversed. Sports were a constant source of enjoyment for him, and in his later years he enjoyed his annual excursions to Fort Myers where he would watch the Red Sox Spring training and made a whole new circle of friends while he was there.
Dennis was predeceased by his siblings, Patricia Lavoie and David Delorey. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Delorey of Burlington; his beloved children, Michael Delorey and his wife, Aimee, of Burlington, Kelly Delorey and her partner, Eric Schoenenberger, of Salem, NH, and Mary Beth Burke and her husband, Richard, of Billerica; his adoring grandchildren, Richard Delorey and his wife Maria, Elisabeth Delorey, Brady Burke, Meghan Delorey, and Aiden Burke; his sister-in-law, and his many nieces and nephews. He will also be lovingly remembered by his extended family and many friends.
Dennis’ family would like to express their gratitude to everyone at Care One Wilmington, as well as the nurses and staff at Brighton Hospice for the exceptional care that Dennis received.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his visiting hours on Tuesday, August 18, from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12 Noon at St. Margaret’s Church in St. Veronica’s Parish, 111 Winn Street, Burlington. Burial will be private. Contributions in his memory may be made to Brighton Hospice at 1234 Chestnut St Suite 101 Newton, MA 02464 or to Boston Catholic TV at https://www.catholictv.org/donate.html
