Chris Carney, 76, of Burlington, passed away peacefully after a period of declining health on Saturday morning, August 22, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Chris was born in Somerville, the son of the late William and Edna (Blute) Carney. The family moved to Lexington and He graduated from Lexington High School before continuing his education at Middlesex Community College. A dedicated and hardworking man, Chris spent more than 23 years with Coca-Cola, where he worked as a truck driver and delivery specialist. He took great pride in his work and was known for the reliability and dedication he brought to everything he did.

While attending a party, Chris met the love of his life, Bernadette Martis. Although she was spoken for at the time, Chris was not one to be easily discouraged. Through a series of persistent and, perhaps, destined chance meetings, their paths continued to cross. Eventually, the timing was right, and Chris and Bernadette began dating. Their love grew into marriage and, together, they built the family that meant everything to them.

Chris and Bernadette were blessed with two sons, Mike and Ryan, and being a father was among Chris's greatest joys. He was the kind of dad who made childhood fun, always ready to take his boys on an adventure, whether it meant a trip to Chuck E. Cheese or simply finding something entertaining to do together. As Mike and Ryan grew older, Chris became one of their biggest supporters. He could frequently be found on the sidelines or in the stands, proudly cheering them on at their baseball games and football games, rarely missing an opportunity to watch his sons play.

Those who knew Chris will remember him not only for his devotion to his family but also for his legendary sense of humor. He was quick with a joke, a funny observation, or the perfect remark to lighten the mood. He had a natural ability to make people laugh and could bring a smile to those around him even when circumstances were difficult.

Chris was also a talented musician. He played both the drums and the guitar and maintained a lifelong love of music. His tastes ranged from classic rock to the smooth sounds of yacht rock, and music was often part of the soundtrack of family life. When his boys were young, Chris would pick up his guitar and sing them to sleep, creating the kind of simple, treasured memories that his family would carry with them forever.

Of all his interests, however, Chris's true passion was woodworking. He loved learning from This Old House and could spend countless hours working with his hands, turning pieces of wood into something useful and lasting. He built numerous bookcases and completed many projects around the family home, including the family pool deck, which provided the perfect launching point for countless epic cannonballs. Chris was meticulous in his woodworking and took great pride in his tools, keeping them carefully maintained and ready for his next project. For him, woodworking was more than a hobby, it was a way to create, to learn, and to leave something behind for the people he loved.

In addition to his parents, Chris is predeceased by his siblings, Joan Coogan, James Carney and Mary Carney.

He is survived by his loving wife, Bernadette Carney of Burlington, MA, his beloved sons, Mike Carney and his wife Kimberly of Hudson, MA, and Ryan Carney and his wife Michelle of Burlington, MA, two granddaughters, Allura Jota and her husband Matt of Palm Bay, FL, and Ava Hixon of New Haven, CT, his siblings, Richard Carney of Lexington, MA, and Kathy Mazzola of Westford, MA, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
