  • Chinnamma Methratta, 80, of Westborough, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Vadavucode, India, she was the beloved daughter of the late Paily and Alemma Thudinal, sibling to the late Sosamma and Mathew. She was raised and educated in India before embarking on a courageous new chapter in her life. She immigrated to the United States, alone in the winter of 1971. She arrived in Boston, completely unprepared for the frigid temperatures, wearing a thin sari and sandals. In one hand, she held a small suitcase and in the other, seven dollars to her name.

  • Through unwavering determination, hard work, and perseverance, Chinnamma built a life defined by compassion, resilience, and service to others. She dedicated her professional life to caring for those in need as a registered nurse. For more than 20 years, she proudly served the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, as a psychiatric nurse, where she became a trusted advocate for patients who often had no one else to speak on their behalf. Her ability to treat every person with dignity, empathy, and kindness left a lasting impact on countless lives. Even after retiring from her longtime service with the Commonwealth, Chinnamma continued her nursing career for an additional 15 years at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, where her dedication and nurturing spirit continued to touch the lives of patients and coworkers alike. Over the course of her remarkable career, she helped and comforted countless people, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and selflessness.

  • At her core, Chinnamma was a deeply caring, religious, and empathetic woman. She had an extraordinary ability to place herself in another person’s shoes and offer comfort, guidance, and understanding without judgment. Her compassion knew no bounds, and she was always the first to help anyone who was struggling, whether family, friend, patient, or stranger. Helping people was not simply her profession; it was the essence of how she lived.

  • Above all else, Chinnamma was devoted to her family. She instilled in her two daughters the values she lived by every day, that empathy, compassion, and caring for others are what matter most in life. The lessons she taught through both her words and actions will continue to guide and inspire all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.

  • She was an extremely supportive grandmother to her three grandchildren, helping to care for them when they were young and always proud to hear about their latest accomplishments as she relished spending time with them.
  • In addition to her parents and siblings, Chinnamma was sadly predeceased by her daughter, Mary of North Carolina.

  • She is survived by her husband, Mathew Methratta of Westborough, a daughter Elmy Trevejo and her husband Jose of Lexington, grandchildren, Heather Mancini and her husband Anthony, and Sebastian and Alexander Trevejo, as well as many nieces and nephews.

  • Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service starting at 12:30pm at Saint Mary’s Indian Orthodox Church, 65 Great Rd. Maynard, MA 01754. All further services will be private and at the convenience of her family. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the organization, Smile Train at www.smiletrain.org. Arrangements are by the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, Burlington
