Brita K. (Holmstrom) Flemming, age 91, passed away peacefully at Lahey Hospital on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.

Born in Boston, MA on August 1, 1934, she was one of three children of the late Axel F. and Julia M. (Mahoney) Holmstrom. Brita was raised in Allston, MA and graduated from Brighton High School. She later earned her bachelor's degree in Biology from Northeastern University. Brita later married Hartwell (Buzz) Flemming and settled in Burlington, where she raised her children and worked for many years as a reference librarian at the Burlington Public Library.

While raising her family, Brita worked tirelessly to create a home filled with love, support, and kindness. She was endlessly selfless when it came to the people she loved and would drop everything to help her children, family, and friends. Becoming a grandmother was one of the greatest joys of her life, and she brought the same compassion, encouragement, and devotion to her grandchildren that she had always shown her children. Whether she was babysitting or simply cracking jokes to keep everyone entertained, Brita's presence brought warmth and happiness to those around her.

At the age of 61, Brita developed a passion for travel and spent the next several years exploring the world with friends and relatives. Her adventures took her to destinations including Russia, England, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Holland, Italy, Singapore, and Malaysia. She embraced every opportunity to experience new cultures, meet new people, and see the world from different perspectives.

After her years of travel, Brita enjoyed a quieter life at home. In her free time, she loved reading, cardmaking and adding to her silver spoon collection. She was also an avid listener of classical music and cherished every opportunity to spend time with family and friends. Above all else, Brita will be remembered as a kind-hearted and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose love, generosity, and sense of humor touched countless lives.

Surviving Brita are her adoring children, Paul Flemming and his wife Patty of Burlington, Kristina Staples and her husband Norman of Mansfield, and Karl Flemming and his wife Sandra of Bellingham; her cherished grandchildren, Peter Flemming and his wife Abby, Nikki Flemming, Kasey Staples, Jake Staples and his wife Annie, and Ryan Flemming; her loving great-grandchildren, Isabella, Serena, and Sylvia, as well as many other dear relatives and friends.

Brita was the dear sister of the late Dorothy “Dot” Escribano and her husband Jose, and Hudson Brenner and his wife Evelyn.

At the request of the family, services will be held at a later date.
