Obituary

Anne Louise (Mackie) Keating, 92, a longtime resident of Medford and Burlington, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side early Sunday morning, June 7, 2026.

Born in Boston, Anne was one of three daughters born to the late Alexander and Margaret (Paterson) Mackie, both proud Scottish immigrants who built a simple but loving home centered on family, faith, and hard work. Her father, Alexander, was a long-time member of the Masons and worked as a baker throughout his life. He passed along to Anne a talent and passion for baking that would become one of the many ways she expressed her love for others. Raised and educated in Everett, Anne graduated from Everett High School and carried with her throughout life the values of kindness, humility, and generosity that were instilled in her during those early years.

Anne's greatest blessing came when she met the love of her life, Francis “Fran” Keating, during a trip to Cape Cod. Their chance meeting blossomed into a lifelong love story that would span decades, countless adventures, and a family that became the center of their world. Together they built a home filled with laughter, warmth, and unwavering devotion.

While raising her family, Anne worked for 18 years at the Wakefield satellite office of Time Warner. Yet no matter where life took her professionally, her greatest pride was always her role as wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She possessed a remarkable gift for creating a warm and welcoming home where everyone felt loved and cared for. During the years she and Fran lived in Medford, Anne was a proud member of the Mother's Club at St. Francis Church where she formed many lasting friendships and supported her parish community, even dressing up as Mrs. Clause and with Fran as her Santa for many church bazaars.

Anne and Fran shared an adventurous spirit and a love for travel. For more than 20 years they travelled by RV exploring every state in the nation and most of Canada, also cruising to Alaska and flying to Hawaii. They made life-long friends everywhere they went. When Fran turned 80 years of age, he finally hung up his keys, and they happily split their time between Burlington and Naples, Florida, enjoying the sunshine, new friendships, and the rewards of a life well lived.

Some of Anne's most treasured memories were the summers spent with her family at Shawtown Campground in Freedom, New Hampshire. Packing the station wagon and heading north became an annual tradition that brought together her children, extended family, and friends. Those summers were filled with campfires, laughter, games, and the simple joys of being together.

Anne and Fran were legendary hosts. Their home was always open to family and friends, and gatherings were marked by Anne's incredible baking and Fran's gregarious personality. Drawing upon the skills she learned from her baker father, Anne delighted in preparing delicious treats that became family favorites. Together, they created countless cherished memories that their children will hold onto.

A fun-loving, kind, and generous woman, Anne possessed many talents. She was an exceptional knitter and seamstress whose creations became treasured keepsakes. She lovingly knit matching sweaters for her grandchildren, hemmed pants, sewed pillowcases, and crafted thoughtful handmade gifts that reflected her caring nature. Through every stitch, every baked good, and every act of service, Anne found ways to show her family how deeply she loved them.

Nothing brought Anne greater joy than her family. She treasured every moment spent with her children and grandchildren and took immense pride in their accomplishments. Whether hearing the news firsthand or receiving updates over the phone, she celebrated each milestone with genuine excitement and happiness. Her love was steadfast and unconditional, and her family always knew they could count on her encouragement, support, and wisdom.

Anne was sadly predeceased by her husband Fran who passed away in 2018, and her sister, Jessie McLaughlin, who passed exactly nine years prior to the day of Anne.

She is survived by her adoring children, Linda McEleney of Peabody MA, Stephen Keating and his wife Mary of Chatham MA, David Keating of North Andover MA, Nancy Keating of Medford MA, and Susan Costa and her husband Stephen of Burlington MA, her sister, Margie Breen of Essex MA, her beloved grandchildren, Jack and his wife Krista Keating, Julia and William Keating, Michael and Sarah Costa, and Alex, Zachary, Hannah and Rachel Keating, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her visiting hours from 4PM to 7PM on Wednesday, June 10th at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington. Her funeral service will follow the visitation at funeral home starting at 7PM, burial will be private and at the convenience of her family.
