Nothing gave him more pleasure than being behind his helm, smelling the fresh ocean air as he cruised the waters of Cape Cod, Essex River, and North Shore. He enjoyed his knowledge of seamanship as he was a longtime member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. He taught boating Safety classes, performed vessel safety checks, and supported the Auxiliary’s mission of good and safe seamanship. With an ocean breeze, he enjoyed pleasure cursing both at Cape Cod as well in Essex. Walter was an avid golfer.
