  Leo E. Feller, a resident of Burlington for 59 years, passed away at the Bedford V. A. on Wednesday morning, November 5, 2014. The beloved husband of 61 years of Mary (Schraffa) he was 84 years old.

Leo was born, raised and educated in Karlsruhe North Dakota. He was one of 7 children born to the late Paul and Katherine Feller. Leo was a veteran of the Korean War serving his country in the United States Navy. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. During the Navy he was stationed at the Charlestown Naval Shipyard. It was while in Charlestown that he met his future wife Mary. They married and settled in Burlington in 1955 purchasing a home on Marjorie Road. Leo was an important part of his children’s lives. He coached his son in Little League and Babe Ruth. Leo was a handy man and made a baseball field, an ice skating rink and even built his own swimming pool at his home and all the neighborhood children enjoyed spending time at the Feller household. Growing up on a farm in North Dakota Leo had a fondness for animals and he had a small farm in his backyard raising rabbits, goats, growing a rose garden, and also smoking his own home made sausages in his smoke house. Leo and Mary enjoyed taking trips to visit family in North Dakota and PA. Leo was blessed to be an important part of his grandchildren’s lives just as he was his children’s lives. He helped to babysit them, attend their school activities and just be there for them. Leo and Mary had recently moved to the Center Street apartments during their retirement years where they had made many friendships.

Leo was the beloved husband of 62 years of Mary (Schraffa). Loving father of Cathy Houghtaling & her husband Rick of Rindge, NH and Warren Feller & his wife Donna of Burlington. Brother of Joseph of ND, Bert of TX, Marie Olsen of ND, Betty Brunner of ND and the late George Feller and Mag Redding. Grandfather of Riley Feller of Burlington, Melissa Sardelli of E. Boston, Michael Houghtaling of Rindge, NH and Sena Agbleze of Arlington and Zoe Agbleze of Dracut.

Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 11 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., at 12 Noon. Visiting hours Friday 4-7 p.m. Interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington.
